Distribution: Pakistan, India, Bangla Desh, introduced and widely cultivated tropics and elsewhere.
Commonly grown in gardens and as a roadside shade tree. Ripe figs eaten during famine. Birds and monkeys devour the fruits helping in dispersal. The leaves are heated and applied as poultice to abcesses. An infusion of bark and young buds is used in dysentry, diarrhoea and diabetes.
