YASIN J. NASIR
Annual or perennial herbs with hairy parts and alternate leaves. Inflorescence initially scorpioid, later racemose. Flowers ebracteate, blue or white. Calyx barely enlarged in fruit. Corolla hypocrateriform, 5-lobed, with tube smaller than the calyx; lobes spreading. Throat scales present. Stamens 5, included. Nutlets 4, usually ovoid and compressed, smooth, shiny.
Species about 50 in Europe; Africa, New Zealand, Australia. Represented by 7 species in Pakistan.
The present treatment of the genus, especially the perennial species, is provisional. More collecting, especially fruiting material along with field notes on flower colour, ecology etc would be very helpful.
